THE VIA FRANCIGENA (UNESCO NOMINATION 2017)

The Via Francigena, called as a reference to the origin from the kingdom of the Franks, winds through villages, streams and rice fields, and presents itself in the territory as a journey of suggestions of time to travel and discover. Born from the need of the Lombards to connect Pavia, the capital of the Northern Kingdom, to the duchies of southern Italy, it became the main link between northern and southern Europe when the Franks defeated the Lombards.
